A genuine but rare natural hybrid of bilberry and lingonberry, combining traits of both parents — partially evergreen foliage, dark violet berries, and reduced but not absent fertility. Essentially unknown outside botanical and specialty-collector contexts.

- Toothed-margined leaves, evergreen to semi-evergreen — intermediate between its deciduous V. myrtillus and evergreen V. vitis-idaea parents.
- Root system
- Shallow fibrous roots in the top 20–30 cm with few or no root hairs, relying on ericoid mycorrhizal fungi for uptake, spreading into colonies by underground rhizome. The clump you see is usually one plant. Keep it mulched and undisturbed; the rhizomes sit too shallow to survive digging around them.

- Small, dark violet berries — exact size, texture and flavor aren't well documented for this rare wild hybrid.
- Propagation
- Vegetative only in practice — divide rooted rhizome pieces, or take semi-ripe cuttings. Seed is not a sensible route given the flowering and fertility problems noted under pollination.
- Pollination
- Genuinely uncertain — flowers and fruits markedly less than either parent species, but experimental crosses (with V. myrtillus as the seed parent) show it isn't fully sterile either. Not a garden decision most growers will face, given its rarity in cultivation.
