Entries may be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong. Hardiness figures in particular are typical published ranges rather than guarantees — microclimate, drainage, shelter and siting routinely move a plant a zone in either direction, and surviving a winter is not the same as ripening a crop.

Before you eat anything

Do not eat any plant, or any part of a plant, on the strength of this site alone. Many species listed here have edible parts growing alongside parts that are toxic — pits and kernels containing cyanogenic compounds, leaves that must be cooked, fruit that is only safe when fully ripe. Some have close look-alikes that are dangerous. Identification from a photograph, including by the photo-identification feature on this site, is nowhere near reliable enough to eat from.

Always confirm both identification and preparation with an expert who can examine the actual plant first.

Planting and spreading

Some species listed here spread aggressively, and a few are regulated or outright prohibited in particular countries and regions. Spread warnings are shown where known, but that list is incomplete and the rules differ everywhere. Checking your own national and local restrictions before planting is your responsibility.
